Dissanayaka Mudiyanselage Anura Kumara Dissanayaka(අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක)


Born 24 November 1968


current Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.


He served for a time as Cabinet Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation.


Anura Kumara Dissanayake was named the leader of JVP at the 7th national convention of the party, held on 2 February 2014.

He was the Parliamentary Chief Opposition Whip from September 2015 to December 2018.


On 18 August 2019 the National People's Power Movement announced that Dissanayake would be its 2019 Presidential Candidate.

Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa (ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ)




Born 20 June 1949

Father: D. A. Rajapaksa, was a prominent politician, independence agitator, Member of Parliament, Deputy Speaker and Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and Land in Wijeyananda Dahanayake's government.

Lieutenant Colonel RWP, RSP, psc, GR is a retired officer of the Sri Lanka Army, a former Secretary to Ministry of Defense and Urban Development of Sri Lanka.
He retired from the army in 1992 and was appointed Defense Secretary in November 2005.

Sajith Premadasa (සජිත් ප්‍රේමදාස)

Born 12 January 1967


Father : Former President Ranasinghe Pramadasa(President of Sri Lanka in 1989, having served as Prime Minister from 1977)

The Cabinet Minister for Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs and Member of Parliament for the Hambantota District.

The Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP)


Also, he is a working committee member of the UNP and the former Cabinet Minister of Housing and Samurdhi Affairs and Deputy Minister of Health.


Sajith Premadasa was appointed district organizer of the UNP for Hambantota District in 1994, where He launched several projects for poverty alleviation and housing development. 


He initiated the youth movement Tharuna Saviya,


The People Development Foundation Jana Suwaya for poverty alleviation in Hambantota,


Founder of Sasunata Aruna to aid Buddhist temples and Sunday schools in line with the 2600 Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi celebrations.

Sri Lanka Presidential Election - 2019


8th Presidential Election in Sri Lanka will be held on 16 November 2019. The current President Maithripala Sirisena's term of office will end on 9 January 2020.

Remarkable events


  • 11 August - Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Sri Lanka Podujana Party officially announces Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to be its presidential candidate. 
  • 18 August - Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka announced as the presidential candidate of the newly-formed political alliance "National People's Power" in a rally held at Galle Face. 
  • 3 October - United National Party holds its National Convention at the Sudathasada Indoor Stadium to officially name Sajith Premadasa as candidate to the public.
  • 7 October - Nomination for the next president at 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. 33 candidates are set to be nominated.
  • 15 October - Sri Lanka Muslim Congress pledge its support to Sajith Premadasa
  • 15 October - Tamil Progressive Front pledge to support to Sajith Premadasa. 
  • 18 October - Ceylon Workers' Congress pledge to support SLPP candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. 
  • 18 October - Jathika Hela Urumaya holds National convention to annouce its support to Sajith Premadasa.
